Roasted Red Potatoes with French Fry Seasoning are an easy side dish you can make any night of the week. The thin red skins roast up nicely while the insides stay soft and fluffy. A mix of spices, olive oil, and a touch of sugar seasons them with rich flavor and a caramelized finish.

Seasoned red potatoes roast up tender inside with crisp, flavorful skins. Quick to make with simple pantry spices, including spices and a pinch of sugar for extra browning and crispness.

This recipe is gluten-free and dairy-free.

Roasted Red Potatoes with French Fry Seasoning

For an extra punch, we're coating red potatoes with a French fry-style seasoning. Use garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, and just a small pinch of sugar for color and flavor.

The sugar helps the edges caramelize and brown, but go easy, too much can make them sweet. Toss the potatoes well with oil first so the seasoning sticks, then roast cut side down for crisp edges.

Make sure not to crowd the pan so the potatoes have room to roast on all sides. If they're too close together, they'll steam instead of getting a golden finish.

Ingredients

  • Small red potatoes
  • Olive oil
  • Kosher salt
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Sweet paprika
  • Dried thyme
  • Black pepper
  • Sugar (granulated or powdered)

Add a simple green salad or steamed broccoli and carrots to round out the plate.

We're down in the Florida Keys and end every meal with a Key Lime Pie.

Red Potatoes With Garlic Seasoning

For everyone in the Keys, you can pick up these potatoes at Publix in a red bag. They are labeled Enchanted Rose and made by Potato Inspirations.

For everyone else, that's our only grocery store chain down here on the islands, so I'm just being specific. It's one of those little trade-offs for island life.

These seasoned red potatoes roast up tender inside with crisp, flavorful skins. Tossed with olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, thyme, and a touch of sugar, they bake up golden brown with big flavor.

The light caramelization gives them that French fry-style taste everyone loves. Serve these roasted red potatoes with chicken, steak, or fresh-caught local fish.

Notes

If your red potatoes are closer to the size of a baseball rather than a golf ball, cut them into quarters before seasoning so they cook evenly.
White potatoes usually take a little longer to roast so add about 5 to 10 extra minutes of cooking time.
