What Is Marie Rose Sauce?

Marie Rose sauce is a classic British seafood sauce that became popular in the 1960s as the traditional dressing for prawn cocktails.

Made with mayonnaise, ketchup, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce, it has a creamy texture with a slightly tangy flavor. While it's best known for serving with cold shrimp, it's also delicious as a dipping sauce for fried fish, crab cakes, fish sticks, and French fries.

The sauce contains less ketchup than American cocktail sauce, so it is milder and less sweet. The mayonnaise gives it a creamy texture, while lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce add enough tang and seasoning to keep it from tasting heavy.

People traditionally serve it with shrimp cocktail and cold seafood, but it also tastes great with fried fish, crab cakes, fish sticks, and French fries.
