Is Cauliflower Healthy?

Cauliflower rice is a lighter alternative to regular rice. It has a mild flavor and absorbs seasonings, sauces, and pan juices well, making it a useful base for many meals.

Cauliflower is made up mostly of water and is a good source of fiber. One cup of cooked cauliflower rice has about 25 calories, 2 grams of protein, and 4 grams of carbohydrates.

For comparison, one cup of cooked jasmine rice has about 205 calories, 4 grams of protein, and 44 grams of carbohydrates.

Serve cauliflower rice as a simple side dish or use it as the base of a larger meal. These recipes are easy ways to add more vegetables to your plate.

Cauliflower Rice with Butter

Cauliflower rice with butter is a simple side dish made with fresh cauliflower, butter, and salt.

In this recipe, I show you how to turn a head of cauliflower into rice using a food processor, box grater, or knife. I also explain how to cook it without making it watery or mushy.

I enjoy it the same way some people enjoy plain rice or pasta, with plenty of butter and a little salt.

FAQ

How do you reheat cauliflower rice?

Melt a teaspoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the cauliflower rice and cook for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until heated through. If it seems wet, cook it uncovered for another minute.

Does cauliflower rice taste like rice?

Cauliflower rice does not taste exactly like regular rice. It has a mild cauliflower flavor and a slightly firmer texture, but it absorbs seasonings, sauces, and pan juices very well.

How do you cook cauliflower rice without making it soggy?

Cook cauliflower rice in a wide skillet over medium heat so the moisture can evaporate. Do not add water, and leave the pan uncovered. Cook for 4 to 6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tender but not mushy.

Can you freeze cauliflower rice?

Yes. Place raw cauliflower rice in a freezer bag, press out the excess air, and freeze it for up to 3 months. Cook it straight from frozen without thawing. This helps prevent it from becoming watery.
