Creamy tuna salad piled into a scooped-out bagel, topped with cheese, and broiled until hot and bubbly. Serve with pickles, chips, coleslaw, or potato salad for an easy deli-style lunch
112- ounce can of solid white albacore tuna in water, drained(or two 6-ounce cans)
4tablespoonsmayonnaise
2diced celery stalks
4slicescheese(American, Swiss, or Cheddar)
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Set your broiler to high or preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
Add the tuna to a medium-sized bowl and use the back of a fork to break it into small, flaky pieces.
Mix in the mayo, celery, salt, and pepper until well combined.
Slice the bagel in half and scoop out some of the inside with your fingers or a spoon to create space for the filling. Toast or broil the bagel for a minute if it's cold.
Spread the tuna salad evenly over bagel halves.
Top each half with a slice of cheese.
Place the bagel halves on a foil-lined baking sheet and broil for about 1 minute, or bake for about 3 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Notes
How to scoop out a bagel: Slice the bagel in half, then use a spoon to remove some of the soft center. Leave a thin layer inside so the bagel holds its shape.Storage: Refrigerate leftover tuna salad in an airtight container. For the best texture, assemble and broil the bagel melts just before serving.
