Peel and Eat Shrimp is a classic appetizer that's always a hit. Simply boil shrimp, coat them in seafood seasoning, and chill for an hour. Serve with cocktail sauce and fresh lemon wedges for an easy, crowd-pleasing dish.
1pounduncooked shrimp, medium or largewild shrimp is recommended
1tablespoonKey West Seasoning Company Southernmost Blendor use original flavor Old Bay
2tablespoonsapple cider vinegar
1lemon
3peeled and smashed garlic cloves
4cupsfiltered water
fresh parsley for garnish
FOR SERVING
1teaspoonoriginal flavor Old Bay or Key West Seasoning Company Southernmost Blend
2lemonssliced in wedges
Instructions
Fill a big pot with water. Add seafood seasoning, apple cider vinegar, a few smashed garlic cloves, and squeeze in the juice of one lemon; throw the lemon in the pot. Bring the water to a boil.
When the water is boiling, add the shrimp. Bring water back to a boil and cook about 2 minutes or until the shrimp are white and no longer translucent.
Remove the shrimp with a slotted spoon and transfer to a bowl of ice water for a few minutes to stop the cooking process.
When cool, place in a serving bowl. Dust with a teaspoon of the seasoning. Serve with lemon wedges and cocktail sauce.
Serve hot or chill until ready to serve.
Notes
How to Make Cocktail Sauce
½ cup ketchup
2 tablespoons prepared horseradish (found in condiment aisle)
1 dash Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons lemon juice
½ teaspoon hot sauce (such as Cholula)
Mix ingredients together in a small bowl. For two pounds of shrimp, double the recipe. Store in a covered container in the refrigerator up to one week.Storage
The shrimp can be cooked and chilled one day before serving.
Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for a day or two after cooking.
Do not freeze.
