Japanese spicy mayo is a simple sauce used on sushi rolls and seafood dishes. It’s creamy, a little spicy, and takes about a minute to make at home. Use it as a dipping sauce or spoon it over rice bowls.
½cupmayonnaiseHellmann's or Kewpie Japanese mayonnaise
2tablespoonssriracha sauce
1teaspoonlime juice or lemon juice
pinchsugar and rice vinegar if not using Kewpie
Instructions
Add mayo sriracha and a squeeze of lime juice to a small bowl.
Taste and more sriracha if you want more heat.
Add a pinch of sugar and rice vinegar if using American mayonnaise.
Notes
If you don’t have sriracha, mix a little ketchup and hot sauce as a substitute. At the very least, mayo and hot sauce will get you close. If using regular mayo like Hellmann’s, add a tiny pinch of sugar and a splash of rice vinegar to get closer to that Japanese-style flavor.Storage: Store in an airtight container, such as a mason jar, in the refrigerator for up to one week.
